Achieving efficient gas—liquid countercurrent operation in microreactors faces multiple technical challenges
primarily due to the difficulty in forming stable countercurrent flow naturally
along with high flow resistance and substantial pressure drop. This study proposes a novel
microscale gas—liquid countercurrent absorption method based on helical liquid-bridge flow. Micron-scale helical structures are employed to induce stable semi-constrained liquid-bridges
enabling controlled countercurrent contact. By adjusting helical parameters and feed configurations
the method optimizes liquid film distribution
residence time
and interfacial renewal
thereby enhancing mass transfer. Experiments in a CO
2
—water system showed that the volumetric mass transfer coefficient increased by 1—2 orders of magnitude compared to conventional devices. A dimensionless correlation for the liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient was developed with less than 15% deviation. This work provides a theoretical and technical foundation for developing efficient microscale gas—liquid absorption devices
with broad applicability in process intensification and system integration of microchemical engineering.
